Imvi Labs on TV4: How VR improves children's reading skills in Farsta

On June 2, TV4 highlighted the growing problem of declining reading skills among children and young people — a trend confirmed by study after study. But amid all this, there are rays of hope. One of them can be found in Farsta, at Hästens Friskola, where students are now training their reading skills using Imvi Labs’ VR technology.

“We see significant improvements in reading speed in both classes that have trained with Imvi.”
Johanna Clarin Roda, Teacher at Hästens Friskola

It all began when teacher Johanna Clarin Roda — the initiator and class teacher for Year 1 — noticed how special education teachers on social media were praising Imvi Labs’ VR solution. She contacted her principal and quickly received approval.

“We started by testing the VR training with students who struggle with reading in Years 4 and 5, to give them better conditions before they move on from the school,” Johanna explains in the TV segment.

During the autumn term, Hästens became a pilot school where the entire Year 3 cohort trained together in preparation for the national tests. In the spring term, it was Year 1’s turn to try Imvi Labs’ training.

In the feature, several students share their experiences. Here are some of their voices:

“It’s good — you kind of concentrate more when you read, and you can find the lines you’re reading.”

“I’ve started reading much faster, and I concentrate more.”

Our data shows that 3 out of 4 users double their reading speed on average with Imvi’s training.

The results did not take long:

“At first, the recommendation was to train four days a week, but my students wanted to train more — and we saw clear differences. One student, for example, increased their reading speed by 300%. That says a lot.”

The TV4 report shows how VR technology can become a powerful tool in the fight against declining reading skills. For Hästens Friskola, Imvi Labs has already made a significant difference — and more schools are now following the development with great interest.
