Magma was started at Chalmers in the wake of the 2015 PISA survey with the vision of increasing goal achievement and equity in mathematics.

Magma combines technology with the manual work of Mathematics. Students not only provide an answer but also explain their thought process. The answer is automatically graded, and the calculation is sent to the teacher in real time. This enables working methods that improve the interaction between students and teachers.

Magma also enables a better systematic quality of work for the principal by collecting information whenever a student solves a task. Thus, knowledge gaps and challenge areas are mapped at the student, class, school, and municipal levels. This provides a basis that helps the principal to make informed decisions regarding development efforts.

Today, we collaborate with most of Sweden’s municipalities at the central level and partner with organizations such as the National Centre for Mathematics Education, NCM.
