Thomas Nygren

Thomas Nygren is Professor of History and Civics Education at Uppsala University. His research explores how digital technologies, including AI, influence teaching and learning. With a special focus on history and civics education, he examines how students develop critical thinking, digital literacy, and an understanding of human rights in a rapidly changing information landscape. Through interdisciplinary projects and classroom-based studies, his work highlights the importance of subject-specific approaches to counter disinformation and support democratic resilience in education. Nygren has served as an expert for the European Commission and received both the Uppsala University Pedagogical Prize and the national award The Golden Magnifying Glass for his work on supporting students’ digital literacy.
