My name is Inger Damlin and I am the chair of the Swedish Teachers’ Union of Finland. With a broad background in trade union work and a solid background as a teacher – having worked as a class teacher, a teacher for migrant pupils, a special needs teacher and a headteacher – I am taking on this trade union role.
Over the past year, I have been involved in the Ministry’s vision-building work on the future of primary education and have played an active role at national level as we in Finland have reformed the support system. FSL is a key player in Swedish-language education policy in Finland, as reflected, for example, in the Government’s programme.
I am proud of my role, in which I work to support teachers and headteachers in a school where everyone thrives and learns.
